Ariel. The Road Home.

Uniting Two Cultures in One Unforgettable Story!

THE STORY

Two worlds.
A way home.

Composer David Gold leaves Israel to pursue his dream of creating a hit show in America. Behind him are his mother and young daughter. Ahead lies a new life — and a son, Ariel, who will grow up knowing almost nothing of his father’s past.

Years later, Ariel arrives in Israel with the show David never lived to see. A meeting with his half-sister Leah opens a world of family, memory and music. Through Dalia, a translator who becomes much more than a guide, he begins to discover where he belongs.

Now Ariel must choose between the life he knows and a new beginning: a family he has only just found, a love he cannot ignore, and a musical inheritance waiting to be heard.

CROSSROADS · WHAT WE CARRY FORWARD

A family apart.
A song between them.

David leaves behind more than an unfinished show. He leaves a silence between two branches of the same family — and music that his son can carry across it.

In Israel, Ariel’s inheritance acquires faces: Leah, the half-sister he has never known, and the generations whose lives shaped his father’s choices. With Dalia, the past begins to open towards a future of his own.

This is the particular heartbeat of CROSSROADS: a son bringing his father’s unrealised musical home, while discovering what home means to him.

AT THE HEART OF CROSSROADS

What we leave behind.
What we carry forward.

At its heart, CROSSROADS is about family and unity. The experience of one family across three generations opens onto questions of ancestry, cultural identity and the connections that survive distance and time.

Professional ambition, love and belonging pull its characters in different directions. The music brings those worlds into conversation — past with present, parents with children, New York with Israel.

Act I

David Gold, the musical’s narrator, composer and pianist, recounts his decision to leave Israel for America. He dreams of creating his own hit show, CROSSROADS, leaving his mother and daughter Leah behind. In America, singer and actress Chris Ray gives birth to their son, Ariel. David dies before he can raise his son or see the musical reach the stage.

Chris and her lover, producer Robert Dulles, produce the show after David’s death. Years later, the successful production tours Tel Aviv with Ariel, now a singer and guitarist, in the cast. Through the show and his son, David’s music has returned home.

After a performance, Leah asks to meet Ariel. With her friend Dalia translating from Hebrew, she tells him that she is his half-sister. Ariel agrees to meet his father’s family, initially drawn by his interest in Dalia.

At his grandmother Ita’s home, Ariel learns about the father he barely remembers and the relatives his mother never mentioned. Ita shows him a photograph of David and describes his departure. With Dalia’s help, Ariel discovers the warmth and understanding of a family he never knew.

He invites Dalia to explore the city. During a walk by the sea, their growing intimacy is interrupted by an air raid alarm.

Act II

David places his family’s experience within a wider history. A procession moves through the hall; voices sound from different directions. Images of Jewish history, percussion and orchestra form a large-scale theatrical sequence.

As Ariel’s connection to Israel and his love for Dalia deepen, he comes into conflict with Chris and Robert. At the risk of losing his career, popularity and inheritance, he leaves the show and stays in Israel.

Starting again is difficult. Dalia’s love and Ita’s support help him find his footing. His grandmother gives him his father’s musical legacy, and Ariel forms a band to perform David’s compositions. The band gains an audience; Ariel and Dalia marry.

Chris begins to recognise her son’s achievements and offers him new opportunities in America. Ariel chooses an independent path. He enters a prestigious international song contest with his band and wins.

Before the final song, David reflects on the power of art to bring people together across generations. He once left his family to reach the world through music; his son achieves that dream by returning to his roots. The full company joins in a celebration of love, family and the bonds that endure.

THE PRODUCTION HORIZON

Israel & America.
One shared stage.

A story of family, memory and belonging — connecting audiences in Israel with Jewish communities in America through music and theatre.

In Jerusalem, Rebecca Crown Hall at the Jerusalem Theatre forms the starting point of that vision: a close encounter with the characters, their music and the family they become.

In America, the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills offers an inspiring vision for that next chapter. Owned and operated by Temple of the Arts, this historic Art Deco theatre brings Jewish cultural life together with music, drama and film — a resonant setting to explore for a future production of Crossroads.

Production concept · Potential venues for discussion, not confirmed engagements. Format, partnerships and dates remain to be developed.
