A NEW MUSICAL ABOUT FINDING YOUR OWN VOICE

A small voice.
A big world.

Everyone has a plan for her future. She has to find her own. Inspired by the timeless fairy tale, THUMBELINA is a contemporary family musical about growing up, finding your voice, and learning to choose your own path in a world that is constantly trying to choose it for you.

Set in a modern metropolis, the musical follows a young, gifted singer with a dream of performing on a real stage. When a charismatic producer discovers her and promises to make her a star, Thumbelina suddenly enters a dazzling new world of music, ambition, attention and opportunity.

But success comes with a price. The further she goes, the more people begin telling her who she should become. And the more difficult it becomes to hear her own voice.

FIRST SONG FROM THE MUSICAL

Free to Fly.

Thumbelina alone in the light — stage concept

“Free to Fly” is the first song released from THUMBELINA. A sweeping orchestral ballad, the song captures the emotional heart of the musical. It comes from the moment when Thumbelina begins to understand that freedom is not simply about escaping from other people.

It is about learning to trust your own voice. To stop living according to other people’s expectations. To accept that you may not know exactly where you are going yet. And still have the courage to move forward.

THE STORY

The dream.
The price.

THE STORY — stage concept

Thumbelina is a young, talented singer living a modest life with her mother in a vast modern city. She dreams of the stage. Not necessarily of fame. She simply wants to sing. Then she meets The Toad — a successful, charismatic and dangerously persuasive music producer who immediately recognizes her talent.

He offers her what she has always wanted: a career, an audience, a future. At first, everything feels like a dream. New clothes. New people. New opportunities. New rooms she never imagined entering. But gradually, the dream begins to change. The Producer starts shaping not only her career, but her image, her choices and even the person she is expected to become.

Around her, everyone has an opinion. What she should wear. How she should sing. Who she should be seen with. What kind of girl the audience wants her to become. Thumbelina enters a world where attention can feel like love, success can feel like freedom, and applause can make it difficult to know what is real.

THE WORLD OF FAME

Everyone has
a different plan.

The familiar fairy-tale characters become the people and social worlds Thumbelina encounters on her journey.

The Toad · The Producer — stage concept

The Toad · The Producer

Explore this world

Charismatic, intelligent and persuasive. He sees Thumbelina’s talent before almost anyone else does. He opens doors for her. He teaches her how the industry works. He makes her believe that everything she wants is within reach. But the more successful she becomes, the more he expects to define the terms of that success.

The Toad does not need to look like a frog. His world is revealed through color, behavior, power and control.

The Beetle World — stage concept

The Beetle World

Explore this world

A glamorous, fast-moving world of fashion, image and social approval. The Beetles are young, beautiful, confident and highly visible. They know how to belong. They know how to be noticed. They know how to perform a version of themselves that the world wants to see.

Thumbelina is fascinated by them. And intimidated by them. For the first time, she begins to question whether talent alone is enough. Here, appearance becomes currency. Attention becomes status. And belonging begins to feel conditional.

The Mole — stage concept

The Mole

Explore this world

The Mole represents a completely different possibility. He is not chaotic. He is not glamorous. He is not chasing trends. He offers stability, security and a life without uncertainty. His world is elegant, controlled and safe. A place where everything is decided. A place where nothing unexpected can happen.

For someone exhausted by pressure, that safety can be deeply seductive. But it can also become another kind of cage.

LOVE

He hears
her own voice.

LOVE — stage concept

And then Thumbelina meets someone who sees her differently. A young musician. He is not interested in creating a star. He is interested in the person behind the performance. With him, there is no image to maintain. No strategy. No contract. No version of herself she has to perform.

Their relationship becomes the emotional counterpoint to the world around her. For the first time, she experiences what it means to be heard rather than managed. Seen rather than evaluated. Loved rather than transformed. But love does not become an easy answer either.

Thumbelina still has to make her own choices. She cannot simply exchange one person’s expectations for another’s.

THE MUSIC

A world of sound.
A voice of her own.

The score is envisioned as a contemporary theatrical sound world combining: symphonic orchestration, emotional ballads, contemporary pop, rock, rhythmic ensemble numbers, cinematic textures and intimate acoustic moments. Each world Thumbelina enters has its own musical identity.

The Producer’s world is polished, seductive and controlled. The Beetle World is energetic, fashionable and rhythm-driven. The Mole’s world is darker, slower and more contained. The love story becomes more intimate and organic. And Thumbelina’s own musical language gradually emerges from all of them.

The music evolves with her. At first, she sings inside other people’s worlds. By the end, she sings in her own.

THE VISUAL WORLD

One stage.
Many worlds.

THUMBELINA is not designed as a traditional fairy-tale production. There are no literal animal costumes. No fantasy castle. No attempt to recreate a picture-book world. The visual language is contemporary, theatrical and symbolic. A single flexible stage environment transforms from one world to another through light, movement, projection, costume and a limited number of physical scenic elements.

The stage may become: a small music club, a producer’s office, a fashion-driven performance world, an elegant but claustrophobic interior, a night-time city, an intimate rehearsal space, or an open stage filled only with light. The magic comes from transformation rather than excess.

From theatrical imagination rather than literal fantasy.

THE STAGE

The world is still large.
She is no longer small.

THE STAGE — stage concept

The scenic concept is built around the idea of a young person entering worlds that seem larger than she is. At the beginning, the stage feels overwhelming. Structures tower above her. People surround her. Images of her become larger than life. Her own face may appear on screens while she becomes less certain of who she really is.

As the story develops, the stage gradually opens. The visual world becomes less crowded. Less controlling. More honest. By the time she reaches “Free to Fly,” the space itself reflects her transformation. The world is still large. But she is no longer small inside it.
